The Mazda CX-7 fresh styling and upgrade details: Mazda now offers an exciting choice of three engines. And all three are very well suited to this vehicle.

New Mazda CX-7 Upgrade

Other highlights are brand new styling and a wide range of enhanced and upgraded features. Interestingly the Australian market is the only place in the world where Mazda will be offering three different engines in this fresh styling and upgrade effort. One reason for this is probably the carmakers’ realization that Australian SUV buffs have such diverse needs that can only be addressed by three different engines complete with three different transmissions, two drivetrains and four model grades.

This should be exciting news for those who have become attached to Mazda prices which always have “value for money” written all over them and this latest effort continues in that tradition. Numerous very attractive standard features are very much evident in all levels of the new CX-7.

We at New Car Shopper felt that the fuel economy is also pretty striking. For instance the new front-wheel drive CX-7 classic gives maximum power of 120kW at 6000rpm and only runs on 9.4 litres per 100km. The CX-7 Diesel Sports with 2.2 litre turbo-diesel engine with a maximum power of 127kW at 3,500rpm takes in only 7.6 litres for every 100km.

Some Mazda faithfuls are a little disappointed and still wait for the day that Mazda will release a diesel engine with an autobox but for now will have to make do with this substantial upgrade.

Almost a third of Mazda sales worldwide are achieved through the Mazda3 and so it is hardly surprising that a lot of care is usually put into the launch of any new Mazda3.

The Mazda 3 Maxx Sport is no exception. Although the truth is that the Australian car market has always been very receptive to this make and the previous offering (the 323) managed to move almost 400,000 units out of showrooms across the country before the arrival of the new Mazda3 earlier this year.

Driving the Mazda 3 Maxx Sport, it is not too difficult to see why this vehicle has been so popular in Australia. To start with there are plenty of safety features like the Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control and ABS amongst many others.

Then there is the interior package that includes satellite Navigation and Bluetooth phone connectivity. Not to mention the 16-inch alloy wheels. The new generation 2.0-litre engine powers the new Mazda 3 Maxx Sport and executives insist that it has improved fuel economy that stands at 8.21-litres for 100kms.

Emissions have also been reduced to only 193g/km. These are the figures for the automatic version. We at New Car Shopper especially liked the Mazda five-speed automatic transmission. This replaces the previous four speed version.

Moving to the inside of the car, the leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear level are distinct and add to the impressive look of the interior. As does the 4.1 inch colour information screen which also serves as the cruise control screen.

Although the VW Golf is in competition the Mazda 3 Maxx Sport price is lower and should therefore end up winning many more customers.

The 2009 Mazda3 SP25 is very impressively designed both on the exterior and interior but this may not be enough and chances are that this new kid on the block may have problems finding enough buyers in a very crowded segment of the market.

That is even despite the credible and strong performance from its’ 2.5-litre engine. The main setback actually originates from the Mazda3 SP25 price which does not give it any advantage in a crowded segment with long established competitors.

One would be excused for thinking that Mazda prices here had their eye fixed on the model’s good looks hoping that beauty alone will carry the day.

Actually this model has already received rave reviews for its’ stylish exterior designs. Nonetheless, if this was the intention, we at New Car Shopper have our doubts.

Highlights in the 2009 Mazda3 SP25 interior include its’ compact 4.1-inch multi-information display that fits so perfectly in the centre of the dashboard making it very easy to read the satellite navigation system even for complex inner city streets.

The 2009 Mazda SP25 Outside and Under The Hood

As far as the exterior goes, the silhouette, rising belt line and incorporated roof spoiler all combine to create a dynamic look that will without doubt appeal to markets as diverse as you can think of, from Japan to America, Europe and Australia.

Despite the power under the hood, the 10.9-metre turning circle and nicely weighed steering makes parking in tight spaces easy and female drivers will no doubt be the first to comment on the light feel of the clutch pedal.

But even all these pluses will not shield the 2009 Mazda3 SP25 from the fierce competition in a very price sensitive market where customers cannot help comparing price to what they are getting.

If those who have tried it out were to be asked to write an advertisement on the 2009 Mazda MX-5, then chances are high that they would start by saying that the world’s best selling sports car has gotten a lot better. It may sound corny but it is pretty close to the truth. The consensus is that the changes in this latest release are way beyond simple cosmetic adjustments.

Although the new car is an improvement of the third generation body that made its’ debut in 2005, there are numerous changes and improvements.

There is more cabin space and many small subtle touches like a soft touch pad on the centre console, new valve springs, a new storage net on the passenger’s side and the engine has a forged crankshaft. Undoubtedly plenty of thought and work has gone into this 25th anniversary MX-5.

A lot of what was good and had gone missing in recent models has re-emerged with gusto in this 2009 Mazda MX-5. Even the mere roar of the engine sounds and feels much more responsive.

Apparently Mazda have toughened the chassis and this has had an impact on the “feel” of the car, enabling the driver to feel the power and crispness of the MX-5 much more easily.

Among its’ weaknesses include a cumbersome steering wheel that defies adjustment for comfort and reach. But even this and the other shortfalls are easily overlooked with the power under the hood and numerous technical adjustments that make it handle like a dream around bends and at higher speeds. The brakes are exceptionally good as they should be when you are handling the kind of raw muscle we are talking about in 2009 Mazda MX-5.

The CX9 Luxury also features are an 8-way power adjustable driver seat, ten-speaker Bose audio system, a powered sun roof and a 6-disc in-dash CD player.

Both the Luxury and Classic models feature collapsible back seats, reclining seats, six airbags and seat belts that won the CX-9 five stars in the crash-test held by US NHTSA.

There is plenty of cargo space – you’ll find air conditioning controls for the passengers in both back seat rows, plenty cup holders and smart storage. From the outside, the CX9′s detailing and sweeping lines easily level, even surpass many of the prominent SUV’s in the market today.

Here to give the Toyota Kluger a hurry up, the Mazda CX-9 features an all new 3.7 V6 engine from Mazda that delivers 196 kW at 6250 rpm – a generous amount of power for a family vehicle.

The CX9 is a front wheel drive vehicle by definition but its torque-on-demand system will engage all 4 wheels when and if the need arises. If speed matters, 100km/hr is a mere 8.5 seconds away from a standing start, again, a great figure for a 7-seater.

Mazda has definitely struck a great balance with the CX-9 – plenty of space, super comfortable and an easy yet confident and sporty drive. The Mazda CX-9 is definitely worth a closer look if you are looking at a roomy and styling SUV.
