
Mitsubishi started out as a steamship manufacturing company and played a leading role in the Japanese war effort during World War II building excellent war ships.

Thus unlike many other Japanese companies it did not experience any lean times during the Second World War. If anything it greatly expanded and grew its’ financial base doing “war” business.
Later Mitsubishi heavy industries split into three entities namely nuclear power production, chemical manufacturing and auto manufacturer.
Mitsubishi Motors was created in 1970 and right from the onset the company’s strategy was to enter strategic partnerships with other major car manufacturers.
At the moment Mitsubishi has working partnership arrangements with DaimlerChrysler, Hyundai, Colt and Volvo. This approach has served it very well with a number a number of highly successful partnership efforts like the Mitsubishi Colt. Very few other companies have had as much success with this approach to car manufacturing.
However the most famous and successful Mitsubishi has to be the Mitsubishi Pajero which has achieved brisk sales the world over and established the Mitsubishi name as a serious contender in the world of leading car manufacturers.
The first Mitsubishi to be produced in Australia was the Mitsubishi Galant. Over the years Mitsubishi Motors Australia has gone on to other successful models.
Today the concentration is mainly on the Mitsubishi Magna and much more recently the Mitsubishi 380. Still this has not stopped the direct importation of various other Mitsubishi models which can be found at dealers across Australia.
