A simple direct answer to the question of what HSV’s are is that they are an upgrade from the ordinary Holden vehicles to something closer to the racing supercars.

HSV History:
This is exactly what Ford later opted to do with their FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles) to challenge Holden in this special “super car” niche in the market. To date there is a very thin line separating HSV from the Holden Racing Team.
This first project for HSV was creating a more sporty and powerful version of the best-selling Holden Commodore. Numerous early models were based on the Commodore starting with the SS Group A SV.
Popularly christened “The Batmobile” this car had a sensational body complete with “wings” at the back. Indeed the exterior of any HSV has always been a very important part of the “muscle car” package.
The body kit helps give the vehicle that important sporty look especially the E-shaped vents and “ring of fire” tail lights. The whole idea is to emphasize the raw power to be found under the hood in the looks.
The latest range of HSVs are the E-series. This includes the HSV E-series Clubsport R8, GTS, Grange, Maloo, Senator Signature and Signature GTO Coupe amongst others. As always phenomenal power under the hood is combined with engineering excellence and precision to produce a really unique “animal”.
HSV cars are exported all over the world where enthusiasts wait for new models with anticipation and baited breath. From neighbouring New Zealand to Britain and South Africa to name but a few of the foreign markets is where the HSV is really popular.
