Fiat History
…and not just cars during the two world wars the company prospered by producing aircrafts for the right markets. Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (Italian Car Factory of Turin) started life in 1899 and has today grown from its humble beginnings to a giant corporation.
The company started off manufacturing only cars and agricultural equipment. Its’ success over the years has seen Fiat take over many other companies and is today the largest industrial giant in Italy.
The company actually has vast interests in many other industries. Still, Fiat is known all over the world for its’ cars (most notably the tiny Pandas and Unos) but also produces the wildly popular Vespa motorbikes. It also owns other popular car brands like Alfa Romeo.
In recent times in Australia the Fiat name has become associated with cleaner cars that produce less emission. Fiat executives claim that they are ahead of other popular car makes like Toyota, Ford and Volkswagen.
This has been achieved partly through the introduction of new engines like the innovative MultiAir technology petrol engine and the new generation Common Rail MultiJet diesel engines. Software applications like the Eco:Drive also allows Fiat drivers to analyze personal driving habits and styles to allow the best fuel consumption and limited emission.
