Dodge History

Actually it all started way back in 1901 when the two Canadian brothers, John Francis and Horace Eglin Dodge made an important decision to move their bicycle factory from Ontario to Detroit.

The Dodge brothers quickly saw the opportunity in the then infant but emerging automobile industry and started producing parts for cars like the Oldsmobile.

Henry Ford approached them about a year after they had started this new venture and what followed was a very profitable relationship with the man who invented the car assembly line that sped up production and ushered in the mass market car for the very first time.

By 1914 the Dodge brothers had enough profits and experience to venture into car manufacturing on their own. They did this by designing a tough rugged car that ended up selling briskly through a well-thought out distribution network.

As the 1920s were coming to a close the Dodge company was purchased by Chrysler and this paved the way for rapid expansion that even saw heavy trucks produced under the Dodge name.

To this day this is a very important part of the Dodge market worldwide. In recent years Dodge has re-introduced its’ popular brand in Australia and the Dodge Phoenix is to be followed by at least two new model launches annually for the next few years.
