If those who have tried it out were to be asked to write an advertisement on the 2009 Mazda MX-5, then chances are high that they would start by saying that the world’s best selling sports car has gotten a lot better. It may sound corny but it is pretty close to the truth. The consensus is that the changes in this latest release are way beyond simple cosmetic adjustments.

Although the new car is an improvement of the third generation body that made its’ debut in 2005, there are numerous changes and improvements.

There is more cabin space and many small subtle touches like a soft touch pad on the centre console, new valve springs, a new storage net on the passenger’s side and the engine has a forged crankshaft. Undoubtedly plenty of thought and work has gone into this 25th anniversary MX-5.

A lot of what was good and had gone missing in recent models has re-emerged with gusto in this 2009 Mazda MX-5. Even the mere roar of the engine sounds and feels much more responsive.

Apparently Mazda have toughened the chassis and this has had an impact on the “feel” of the car, enabling the driver to feel the power and crispness of the MX-5 much more easily.

Among its’ weaknesses include a cumbersome steering wheel that defies adjustment for comfort and reach. But even this and the other shortfalls are easily overlooked with the power under the hood and numerous technical adjustments that make it handle like a dream around bends and at higher speeds. The brakes are exceptionally good as they should be when you are handling the kind of raw muscle we are talking about in 2009 Mazda MX-5.
