Most people have no idea where the Skoda car comes from. Actually its’ country of origin is the Czech Republic and Skoda is a pretty old car manufacturer.

Skoda

Skoda History

It was launched in 1894 when a bookseller called Vaclav Clement failed to get his bicycle repaired when he shipped it off to the manufacturers in Germany.

Instead the bicycle people in Germany were rude and insisted on an accompanying letter in German explaining what the problem with the bicycle was.

An angry Vaclav abandoned the book-selling business to start his own bicycle company with a friend. Amazingly their products became instant hits in the Czech Republic.

This swift success encouraged them to try their hand at cars and in the early 1900s produced their first effort in the Vorturette A. After a fire completely destroyed their factory in 1924, Vaclav’s company was suddenly in very serious trouble.

To emerge from the crisis, he went into a partnership with Skoda (which was then the largest industrial enterprise in the country.) And this is how he was able to continue manufacturing high quality cars.

The most successful Skoda ever was the Favorite of 1987 which has become wildly popular all over the world. Another important milestone was in 2005 when the Skoda Roomster won a five star safety award.

There is no denying that the reliability and quality of a Skoda is difficult to match and this may help explain why it is now the fastest growing brand in the highly competitive and crowded German car market.
